They’re Finally Remaking Final Fantasy VII

It’s completely understandable that we’re all collectively jumping for joy over the announcement of a remake of Final Fantasy VII; the game that got most of us into RPGs and arguably the best game ever.

However, the feeling I got from the trailer wasn’t one of mindless joy, but anxiety. Not crazy, hyperventilating anxiety – just an unsettling dread, that our constant yearning for a remake will result in a mess; retroactively ruining our favorite game.

Darksiders 3 – Predictions

The future of the Darksiders IP looked uncertain when Vigil’s parent company, THQ, fell to pieces. And while Darksiders was acquired by Nordic Games, they’ve also said “not to look for a Darksiders 3 for at least 5 years” or something.

Having just beaten both Darksiders games in the last nine months or so, it’s been on my mind. And despite my less-than-favorable review of Darksiders 2, I’m still looking forward to the next entry in the series.

Darksiders 2

Recently, I finished playing Darksiders 2; a game I’ve been playing on and off for about six months. Most games don’t take this long to beat, even with the precious little time I have for games these days.

There are a few reasons why Darksiders 2 took so long for me to finish. I definitely took my time at the start, and I’d often take breaks from it and play Mortal Kombat or something; but much of the blame lies on just how fucking long this game is.

A Theory On Thief 4

Having been a massive, almost obsessive fan of the Thief series for most of my life, I looked forward to THIEF for more than half a decade. In this time I followed its development closely, though there was not much that reached the public until the weeks leading up to its release.

I read much on the game in those weeks, as well as the weeks that followed, and I was a little disappointed with what I discovered. Having since acquired and started playing the game, I think I’m willing to overlook those disappointments.

Looking Back On MK; Part 4: Mortal Kombat 4 & MK Gold

When Mortal Kombat 4 came out, I was still in primary school, but I didn’t get to play it until I was seventeen. I had seen the ads for it back when it was coming out, but everything moved too fast for me to know what was going on.

I can remember being in primary school and my friend who rented the game said it was now in 3d. I wasn’t sure if that meant the characters were now polygon models or if you had 360 degrees of movement. Turns out he meant both. Continue reading Looking Back On MK; Part 4: Mortal Kombat 4 & MK Gold

Looking Back On MK; Part 3: Mortal Kombat 3, UMK3, MK:T

Mortal Kombat 3 came out right as I was first discovering Mortal Kombat. It would be a year or two before I finally played it, so for much of my childhood, it was no more than an exciting myth. The world wasn’t so small back then.

I can still remember my first real exposure to MK3. Family friends of mine had it, but we saw them maybe once a year, if that. Their dad got the codes faxed to him from the Nintendo Hotline, I remember thinking that was so cool.

7 Franchises I’d Like To See Continued

Gaming has spent most of its history progressing and evolving through trial and error. Consoles, companies, trends and genres have risen and fallen throughout time.

And while we’re getting the same fucking FIFA and Call Of Duty game every year, more great franchises than I can count are left to rot in obscurity.

Currently Playing: Chrono Cross

I’ve wanted to play this game since I knew it existed. When I first beat Chrono Trigger, I had no idea there was even a sequel. I knew a lot of people that had played CT but no-one ever mentioned Chrono Cross.

Back when the internet wasn’t the bullet train it is today I tried downloading the .iso for Chrono Cross, I wanted it that much. I couldn’t even find videos of it at the time.

My 10 Favorite Video Game Tracks Part 2

Video game music is something I’m very passionate about.  Don’t ask me why, but I am. It’s sort of like that last but vital piece of the puzzle that really brings you into the game. To me, at least.

You can find the first half of the list here, the second half, in no particular order, is below.

My 10 Favorite Video Game Tracks Part 1

Video game music is awesome. It often rivals the best of contemporary music in terms of quality and emotion, and it shits all over the current Top 40. Despite having quite a dedicated Internet culture (check YouTube or OverClocked Remix to see just how massive it really is), the best of video game soundtracks still go mostly unappreciated.

If you’re reading this then I’m sure that thought has already occurred to you. I’m also sure you’ve probably heard at least some of these songs before. Even so, here they are, in no particular order:
